What Do Those Heart Rate Zones Mean?
After completing your Exercise Metabolic Assessment (EMR), you learn what heart rate zones are best for you to exercise in. But what exactly do they mean?
Much of your new cardio/aerobic exercise plan is based on you exercising in specific heart rate "zones" or ranges that have been determined from your response to the various intensities during your Exercise Metabolic Assessment.
Heart rate is important to monitor because it's related to exercise intensity. When you exercise, you want your heart rate (measured in beats per minute) to be at a level that's safe and effective. If it's too low, you may not get the heart fitness effect you want. If it's too high, you may not burn fat as effectively as you could, or you might exercise at an unsafe intensity.
By monitoring your heart rate during the cardio/aerobic exercise portion of your Genesis program, you can measure the effort your body expends during exercise with great accuracy, as well as insure balance between exercise stress and rest, aerobic and anaerobic exercise, and continual improvements in fitness without compromising health.
Here's a brief description of what is accomplished when you exercise in each of the colored heart rate zones that have been defined for you in your Exercise Metabolic Assessment Report:
